December 13 Frankly wats th logic for Drill down displays?! i want itunes, i type "itunes" in the vista drill down menu.. n it displays A) about Itunes b) itunes.exe i go to the damn new firefox type "google" i get results like google.com + search query urls which are damn lengthy!! some times IE 8 impresses me, it keeps track wat URL i had typed exactly on the address bar.. and it gives it some priority.. still its not at its best.. i believe whethr i had typed or not, sites main url be given Higher priority than th other urls of the site which refer to the pages in it. and more importantly i would 80% of times say the sites address from the beginning.. so a match in the prefix should be given more importance than th one in the ass end! not jus tat, may be the address bar could be made some geeky bar!!! where we could say * ABC which would mean i am hunting for an URL which doesnt have ABC in the beginning but in th ass end or else where.. bt defntly not in the beginning... or something else which is really cooler! .... hmmm..... lets hope the drill down menu and the smart address bars really get lil smarter! December 12 IE 8 beta 2 with No open in new tab n lots!!Not jus th first time, again the IE 8 beta has screwed me.. last time i got it installed so crapy tat i didnt get the open in new tab and other features. even clicking on the Tools wouldnt show any menu.. same things repeating again in beta 2 installation..

i hav found myself so , in many occasions! have u ever wondered y the hell all of a sudden the cursor was taken back from the password field to the user name filed, and had ur secret sacred password pull its pant off in front of others!?!?!!?
its the moronic textbox.setfocus() or a direct java script written to bring th focus on the UserName the moment the page has loaded..
its cool tat the Javascript has executed after the DOM has completely loaded.. bt the annoying part.. u had been so cool to go n enter the username and started filling the password before the DOM has loaded!!!!!!!!
dont u think atleast for a Userlogin control u need to chck if the textbox has been already filled or if the Cursor is in the PWD box, before u enforce ur JS to bring the focus to the Username textbox?!?!?!
even if i had to design the login page i would do a set focus.. who cares.. right?!?! but dont u think this kindah things be thought on a banking site or on a User control as such to have the logic embedded to save "watever"?!?!
jus thought to evangelize ma thoughts! next time i get a chance to create an asp.net User login control or to write the Functional specs, u know wat i mean! :P , i would expose a property "if the damn user control User name gets the focus on DOM load".. n i would bother to check on the State of the control client side, before i go BLINDLY bringing the focus on the user id textbox........

recently i was checking our program manager post in MSFT, nothing demanded a guy with <=2yrs of experience.. i feel i will better fit as a program manager.. not that i am unfit for a developer, bt then i feel from wat MSFT interview processes expect out of me.. i dont think am fit to be a SDE!
its like i know i have lateral thinking, i am a problem solver.. and i do the POCs at its level best.. not jus i KNOW.. tats wat i daily do @ ma office.. NRN mama is not paying me for nothing, bt then i really dont agree when a stupid cat mouse weird puzzle is asked to judge if i am a problem solver!
its like am not a coder! i hate writing millions of lines of code, I am a problem solver.. there are different versions of programmers.. i seriously wana break the very assumption tat the programmers got to be number crunchers! they got to be geeky on algorithms, very mathematical implementations of problems!! no way!! its not like tat....... programmers are also folks who concentrate on the business logic of a problem! they are also folks who bring usabilty to the Code.. they are also folks, who can do things so different! tat no one ever thought it could be done at al! i can go on n on, bt th point i wana make is tat.. there is no hard n fast rules to judge who is a gr8 programmer!
today i thought i shall implement a web client software factory and enterprise library based solution.. its just coz, i am involved in developing a web application using them. bt my client has all the wrapper classes which use them. i know how to use em, we do use em! bt then i dont know if i could say the usage of wrapper classes as my knowledge in them!!
before i thought to apply for jobs including em, i thought i shall learn few of those. . ..
i was recently eyeing the NON code development based Junior program manager post in Denmark.. al i got was an email from them tat they are currently loooooooking in to ma resume! not sure, wat they found so interesting to luk @ it fr past couple of months wit out a reply! bt then thank god, they didnt send the usual Sorry boss email!! :P ;)
n its not jus coz, i could clear a program manager related interview i am looking fr a program manager post.. its just tat, i have been from ma childhood interested to be th man who manages things, who steps up when things go messy n when others cant solve it! n lots.. even today @ office, tho i am a Software engineer wit 1 year exp.. am delegating tasks with others double ma experience n co ordinating things.. n stuf.. so i realy feel i could be, or LEARN to be a program manager...

infact, i dont know 2 who th hell i could say all this, coz no one had interviewd me.. so far! ;) so jus thought to scribble n let it out :) its gud.. i can think on stuf, to get me one.. rather having it all in ma self.. n no one to tel it ;) November 26 Twitter!!! hmmmm made me think somethin weirdi knew about twitter for quite some time. bt then i didnt feel like letting the whole world know few stuf which i would say out to ma frnds! ;) when i was thinking about twitter recently, and how cool the concept is to jus say in lines wat th hell u r currently doing or upto! something lil weird n insane struck me.. its like, when you say in english that you watched movie. the expression could be in words of your choice.. and when some1 of ur frnd says the same in english.. it could be same words or .9 prob with different words.. now if we need an engine to find the similar activities among your frnds, or among the folks in the online communitty, understanding the crap of english you all have written is quite a difficult task, which includes data mining and semantic analysis... on the other hand, think of something qutie geeky like having a class for movie, and you say new Movie("name of the movie", watched|wana watch | or fixed enums like this, "your comment on it!", may be rating.., and so on!) Movie can have data members.. you jus fill things which you feel like.. when another frnd of yours does it, its easy to map em. . you might get back to me, how th hell am i gona ensure folks enter correct movie name.. Movie name, could change to IMDB number, where entering the name does a query to IMDB and gets the imdb no. All of us eat.. so its new Eat ( say wat u have ate) or its like new Eat ( new Hotel ( ) ) and so on! you describe your current actions.. as semanticaly relevant objects.. i am sure we do stuf daily which repeat daily! Consider this example, i download movies ( i dont, if it comes to answer an attorney! am here blabbering to prove ma idea ;) ) from torrents. its possible to find the top 100 movies torrents. its possible to find the releases based on pirates. its possible to find the torrents based on the seeders. some times, i prefer watching the R5 release of movies. in this case, i prefer finding the top torrents of R5 release, which evidently becomes sort by seeders! now identifying things based on seeds will not be perfect, i intend to find the movies IMDB scores. so i got to manually do a search ( google or live) to get the imdb page for th movie. then luk for the imdb score. its like geting the data from mininova or piratebay then associating it with th data in imdb. ==> to refine the data to ur desires. in my case i had made the data flow btween two pages, in real world it could pass thro N pages, to get a final result. it can also invole N-1 intermediate results. which is also important. i was surfing around to find, data extraction from tables to be popular.. bt then utlizing the extracted data to associate with another content.. n refining the search or data mining is wat i want. i feel its not out thr!.. thinking further, bt i jus wana jot it down in ma blog.. so tat i can keep track of ma thoughts ;) September 29 It WAs a Hell of A daY! It seemed like an usual Monday.. trouble waking early, wearing th damn
full hand shirt and th tie( company Dumb rules dude ;) ) seemed like a
real pain in th ass... .n th morning traffic was still annoying.. finaly reached office n was having quite a happy time.. thats when ma frnd asked ma help to get her outlook pst files transferred. Ah let me set th context.. she is a poor indian software engineer who s gona travel onsite! wit out a laptop coz she s @ th fag end of the queue waiting for a laptop! hence she needed ma ipod to get th outlook pst out of her box which she s gona bid adieu... i met her, @ her cabin.. thn pluggin th ipod IN, she tried transfering things.. suddenly two things happend.. one virus Alert! i didnt see that so i wasnt aware which file was infected.. i started to doubt whthr ma midnyt surfing die hard habbits had contributed in geting ma system infected :P ;) in the mean time her system went weird.. n we had to restart th system twice.. having got the system to stable state.. she tried copying only the pst file which was bulky around 4.5 gb in to ma ipod ( 160gb / 15gb free!) .. it refused to copy saying " disk is out of space, plz insert new" i dont remember th exact phrase! she tried chucking ma ipod away n tried to copy th pst file in to her pen drive ( 8gb / only 1mb occupied)... both were puzzled! it spit th same error on us! infact i was stupified whetr i had spoilt her last day @ office mood! ! ! ! we both tried our best for another couple of mins.. n it was time for her to leav in th last bus home, so tat she can carry imp things onsite IF NOT th damn pst ;) .. coz next day ( tom!! ;) ) is her flyt @ 4am!!!!! having she left, now it was jus me n th dumb system of hers!!! i tried copy pasting; n always it said.. target space wasnt enough!! i couldn get anything into ma mind.. mostly coz i was pizzed tat i couldn get it done perfect! as i always wish and i get things done! second, i was constructing a damn tree, to figure out wat all dvds which i burnt recently could be virus infected if the ipod s realy infected!! thn had a wild idea of asking the RAR in her system to do a "Store" compression from her secondary storage to my ipod.. it went packing things perfectly till some where less than 4gb! and then it bled infront of ma eyes saying.. it cant do further.. i actualy dont remember wat was its actual msg.. bt watever it was.. gav me an idea tat.. th the FAT file systm of ipod or the pen drive is th culprit.. i split the pst file in to parts of 2gb! and i got em transfered to the ipod.... damn! by the time i got this done. . she almost reached her home!!! Editing text works perfect in Firefox, bt in Firefox u get the problem while signing in, using ur live id! wel the IE 8.0 beta 2 created problems for geting the snapshots uploaded, with its crazy Active X.. so i had to shunt here n there.. even to blog this issue i had to do tat :( :P ;) now am using BR tags.. to avoid roundtrips lemme see if it works ;) in simple words.. having most top browsers.. am shunting between all of em. to get ma taks done! wat a shame (wit em!) :P ;) (*I have Opera 9.5 installed, havnt got time to do the same experiment in it ;) ) Policts n Dumb rules infact does prove to be advantageousi gues, its a movie dialogue " Politics creates opportunities.. DO u use Gtalk?! n wel.. i dont lie, n i said YES! n he asked me to use no more!! its some corporate bullshit rule, employees not allowed to use GTALK!.. my obvious (100% perfect heuristics baby ;) ) guess tat THE TOP GUN of ma workplace, who might have walked past me should have seen me chating!! ;) n things in corporate world.. come wit so much corporate Bull shit.. it comes to u passing thro level by level, and finaly delivered to u by the immediate predator above u in the Food chain! ;) having gone thro tat bitter pill i thought to code a msnger using .net for chating wit ma frnds ;) but then most are in gtalk, i got to code a messenger which communicates with gtalk services. after few minutes of searches i bumped in to the gtalks website which threw some light on how to include gtalk gadget in to your web sites, allowing users to chat with u.. online.. it was damn cool, its perfectly web based!! Bingooo.. few bulbs glew in ma brain!! ;) jus thought why not create my own web page with gtalk embedded in it.. infact i even inspected few .net libraries, which allowed u to communicate with gtalk services.. wel they were damn cryptic n had quite a lot bugs in em.. n wel i dint wana compromise my gtalk credentials by using them. coz u know hacking ones primary email id could be devastating.... thn i even found that the gtalk gadget allowed me to change the styles using CSS, whose path is sent using query string... well i tried a lot.. n in vain.. the issue was, the dumb google logic expects an XML to be placed in the root of the hosting server.. well.. i am behind firewalls google servers cant access them if i get to place it in my IIS... n well i used some free web hosting service to create an account to place my CSS and XML on the root of the directory provided to me! bt all in vain :( it dint work either!! :( In the beginning I tried to place my CSS in the visual studio project, when you use web matrix to run your application you will experience problem. Coz, the path of the CSS in ur project will http://localhost:port/project/XYZ.css and when you send this as query string.. Google server will try to interpret that the CSS is present in it! thats th catch while using LOCALHOST! and whenever there is a problem while accessing the CSS you had specified, the dumb google logic prevents even working of the normal flow! so i had to be satisfied , with the custom look. i jus had the damn control on how n where this gtalk gadget got displayed in my web page ;) finaly just got to chat by browsing the page with internal browser, to add some extra Coding effect :D . ppl think am CODING in visual studio :D he he he aha ha ha ha .. dont u get me wrong, i love programming! for every letter i type in it, it queries thro my Bookmarks, History and also does a search on the world wide web.
that means, it does an Async hit to the Google search Engine.. which in turn counts for REAL searches done!
so if i type a URL of N letters, i account to Firing "N" searches on Google search engine! And in turn i let the Engine not jst clock more search hits, but also i help it strengthen its data base in a way!

" still trying ma luck wit IE 8.0 ;) September 02 Weird Kingfisher booking menui just wanted to chck with the Kingfisher booking.. bt then to my surprise i was as usual lucky ;) i had selected start date as 24 oct 2008 and when i had selected return date month as Nov, to ma utter surprise i found 1 - 23 in the date box disabled! idealy if i had changed th month this should have got enabled! the same was the behavior in Firefox 3 and IE 8. i did send the feedback 2 th site, bt then later i tried again.. this time day 1 was disabled for any combination! realy realy weird!! |
